Twenty20 Rock BBQ - 18th September
Come along and have some fun to wrap up the cricket season!
On Sunday 18th, two teams of finely tuned village athletes (!!!) will thrash a precious red leather ball to all corners of All Cannings Cricket ground in a Twenty20-style fixture. We are also planning to have delicious food, hot from the BBQ, and maybe something to wash it down, and rock music from All Canning's very own LiquidMetal. Thrilling stuff - that is, if the weather is good! All welcome to come and watch & cheer & laugh & cry... or whatever.
The plan is to meet at around 12.30, start the game around 2.30, have tea/music around 4, and finish up around 6-6.30. Pray for good weather!!
See you there!
At the Committee meeting on 5th September, it was stated that there is a group of people willing to fill the committee positions which will be vacant at the 2005 AGM. All agreed that this is excellent news as there will, constitutionally, be no need or value in winding up the club. Any discussion or speculation about the distribution of club assets is then irrelevant. The direction the club takes next year will be up to the new committee acting under the mandate of the 2006 members.
As you are probably aware, All Cannings Cricket Club is proposing to join forces with Urchfont CC and finish cricket activity at the All Cannings ground.
The proposal includes a plan to establish Colts coaching at Urchfont, led by Bob and Richard Holman (both ECB level 2 coaches), together with Alan Crouch (current coach to the Wiltshire 1st X1). This will involve three teams U11 and U13 and U15 - all of which will be playing in their own right (ie not combined with Bishops Cannings) in the Wiltshire Youth League next year. The U13s will also play in the Kennet league. This Colts section should attract young talent from the Urchfont and Lavington areas and will feed naturally into two adult league sides as well as adult mid-week and Sunday friendly fixtures. Later in the year you will receive a letter from Bob, explaining the new set-up at Urchfont in more detail and inviting you to come and see the ground and pavilion, to meet the Urchfont players, and to learn about the indoor coaching (already booked) for Sunday nights, during April 2006.
It may still be possible to keep youth cricket activity in All Cannings as well. I would like to continue youth coaching in All Cannings, working in co-operation with Bob and Richard at Urchfont, if there is sufficient interest and support. In addition to your childs age groups, I hope to include a new U.9 group. I believe this will keep open a broader catchment area, as well as a beautiful ground (including some adult friendly fixtures), for families in All Cannings and other villages keen to have some coaching but who may not wish to travel to Urchfont.
I think it will be fun and important for the youngsters and the village to keep cricket in All Cannings, but it will take a lot of effort. Several people have already indicated their willingness to help out - it would be helpful to know what other interest and support there is for this from the current Colts families overall. So please could you help us to work out how best to move forward by letting me have your views on the following:
It would be great if you could reply to this as soon as possible either by email or phone: 01380 860 601. And we would welcome feedback from anyone else you think might be interested!
Thanks & take care, Adrian
All Cannings 1st XI champions of Division 6!
A tremendous run of wins has meant ACCC 1st XI will be promoted to Division 5 of the Wiltshire League - and are champions of Division 6. The team, led by Richard Holman, has seen runs from many of the batsmen and wickets shared around the bowlers - a real team effort. Congratulations to all, especially Richard for his inspirational leadership.
ACCC go-ahead to join forces with Urchfont CC
ACCC members
voted at the EGM on 18th August to pursue discussions with Urchfont CC over
terms of joining forces. This came after much discussion in which all agreed
that the loss of ACCC would be a very sad loss to the village and that many
people had worked hard over the last 18 years to get the club successful. However,
no group of people came forward to re-invigorate the club so its demise was
accepted as inevitable. Players will be free to join any club they wish if ACCC
is not in existence next year, but there seemed to be a good match with Urchfont.
This does raise the issue of the assets of the club, to whom they belong and
the best way to use them. Some people felt they 'belonged' to the All Cannings
community and this will need further thought.
Notice of EGM (Extraordinary General Meeting)
I am very
sad to have to tell you that the viability of All Cannings Cricket Club is in
serious doubt.
In line with Club's constitution, notice is hereby given of an EGM to consider
the following proposal from the General Committee:
"That in order to secure a long term future, ACCC merge with Urchfont CC with effect from January 1st 2006".
The meeting will be held on the 18th August 2005 in the Village Hall, starting at 8.00 p.m.
Agenda
1. The Future
of ACCC
2. Why UCC
3. Alternatives
4. Proposal/Vote
Background
The demand for senior cricket at ACCC has fallen considerably this season to a point that we have had to cancel all but one of the Sunday fixtures to date. We are also struggling badly to fill the 2 league sides on a Saturday.
Financially the Club is in poor way. The continuous cancellation of fixtures has reduced the Club's income significantly and will result in the Club making a substantial loss. The Club's reserves will barely cover this short fall. Adding to the financial problems is the severe lack of members, this year we have only 12 paid up senior members.
This year, like last year we failed to fill all the posts on the management committee, which has obviously had an impact on the running of the Club. At least 5 members of the current committee have indicated that they will not be standing for re-election next year.
Why Urchfont
Bob Holman
has held informal discussions with Urchfont CC and an appraisal of the comparative
strengths and weaknesses of each club revealed a good fit that would provide
excellent long-term opportunities for both clubs. UCC currently field one Saturday
X1 in Div 2 of the Wilts League and very occasional Sunday X1's. Presently they
have no youth set up and they struggle to field 11 players on a Saturday. By
merging, the new Club could field 2 possibly 3 League sides plus a Sunday X1.
Further details of the benefits and opportunities will be presented at the meeting
How will this work
Cricket will cease in AC
All cricket activities both Senior & Junior will move to UCC
All assets including funds, kit and equipment will be transferred to UCC
What are the alternatives?
If the proposal
to merge is not carried, then the current General Committee will resign there
and then on block. This will then give any alternative group of members the
opportunity of forming a new committee.
The posts required include:
Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Colts Manager, Club Captain, Membership Sec.,
Welfare Officer, Groundsman, Fixture Sec., Sat./Sun. Captains
Who can vote?
All paid up members over 18 years of age are eligible to vote.
In order to widen the debate, any interested parties from the Village Community and past members, can become eligible to vote by applying to the Committee for a non- playing membership prior to the meeting. The subscription for a non- playing membership is £10.
Applications should be made in writing to:

Chairman All Cannings Cricket Club -
18th July 2005
7th May - A good Saturday for All Cannings in the league with both teams winning thanks to some fine performances: Andy Legg 108 n.o. and Kevin Ryalls 81 for the 1sts and Andy Plank 124 n.o. and Gary Perritt 7 for 28 for the 2nds. Congratulations on those great performances!
Nets session cancelled, 1st May
Unfortunately, we have to cancel the indoor nets due for Sunday evening, 1st May. This is because of a shortage of coaches over the bank holiday weekend due to holidays, injury and family commitments. We appreciate that a lot of youngsters may be disappointed and apologise for that. Hopefully, all the colts have enjoyed the first four indoor nets and have remembered how to play a bit of cricket and maybe got a bit better. Weve been really pleased with their enthusiasm and hard work!
The adult net has also been cancelled.
The next nets session is only a couple of days later on Tuesday 3rd May! This is the first of the outdoor nets at All Cannings Cricket pitch starting at 6pm for U11s with U13s at 7pm and adults at 8pm.
I am very pleased to announce that Gary Perritt has volunteered to be manager for the U13 Kennet League team. In addition Terry Patterson has agreed to assist with the umpiring in these matches. Thank you both very much for giving up your time for these kids. This avoids me having to make the embarrassing statement, to the committee that runs this league, that we will not be joining this year. I was dreading this, as it would be for the second year running!
Gary has agreed to run this team on the following, and not unreasonable, basis:
All parents
arrange to get their cricketers, when selected, to the match and collect them
afterwards. Garry will not be transport manager as well!
All cricketers pay the £1 match fee to Garry before the match.
It would be appreciated if parents assist with scoring, putting out stumps and
boundary markers etc. and also providing some biscuits or crisps and squash
for a game or two.
Thank you once again you two for agreeing to help out. I know the kids will appreciate it. Lets hope for a great season of cricket.
Bob Holman
Message from the Chairman (March 2005):
Welcome to the 2005 Season of Cricket with All Cannings Cricket Club
NEW PAVILION: I am delighted to announce that our current landlords, Charles and Sally Osborne, have very kindly indicated that they are prepared to explore the possibilities of offering ACCC a new 21-year lease at Bridge House. This represents a fantastic opportunity for ACCC to invest in the long term future of the Club by upgrading all aspects of the current facilities, including a new pavilion, all weather wickets, permanent nets, sight screens etc. However, failure to grasp this opportunity NOW, will almost certainly spell the end of cricket at AC within the next 2 to 3 years.
ACCC are affiliated to the Wiltshire Cricket Board and, as such, are bound by their rules and regulations which include minimum standard playing facilities and the application of the laws surrounding child protection in sport. For example, this year we have to appoint a child welfare officer. Within 2 years, clubs will have to provide separate changing facilities for juniors playing in senior cricket. These are not options - they are mandatory. If ACCC is to survive we must be in a position to respond to these ever changing demands.
Later on in the season, around May/June, we will be presenting an outline project plan of our proposals to a meeting of the full membership and will be seeking the Club's approval (by vote) to go forward or not.
Clearly this is a substantial project for a small club like AC and we will need to call on a whole range of skills from the membership if this is going to succeed e.g. planning, design, fund raising, grants, sponsorship, building, plumbing, electrical, drainage. .. How can you help?
At this stage we would like to identify a project manager prepared to oversee the project. Is this you? Or do you know a potential candidate? Please let me know

The fantastic news about our ground has given your club the opportunity to grow and offer enhanced facilities into the future. However, the Colts section has a small short-term problem - we are missing an U13 manager! (see below).
I am very pleased to let you know that Andy Plank has been accepted on to the ECB Cricket Coach - Level 1 Course. When he passes we will have 5 fully qualified coaches in our club - which is an incredible achievement, for a club of our size. Although it is nice to have all these qualified coaches, your club also needs helpers, particularly a team manager for our U13's. I'm delighted to say that Dick Sandford-Hill has already volunteered to help out in managing the U.11s.
Your children enjoy their cricket and I really want this to continue. But there is no point in coaching players for them not to compete in matches.Your coaches will continue to help your kids and guide them in the best way that they can. But, we just don't have enough time to coach and also manage teams.
You may remember that together with Bishops Cannings we form joint U11's, U13's and U15's to play in the strong Wiltshire Youth League. Bishops Cannings have already said that they have a manager for each age group for these joint teams. We could also do with some helpers for the joint teams with Bishops Cannings - umpires, scorers, teas brought/served, match fee collection, taxi! This is where you can help. Maybe one parent could score on the day, another umpire, whilst another selects the team? What about a tea rota? If you want to know how to score or umpire just ask me. It is not 'rocket science', honestly! And please see the news item about the Helpers' Workshop.
Just so that you know, I have committed to the following, for the 2005 Season.
U11 Wiltshire Youth League - Joint team with Bishops Cannings. 20 overs a side; most Sunday mornings from 24th April to 28th August; and a final on 29th August between the best U11's in our North region and the best in the South region.
U13 Wiltshire Youth League - Joint team with Bishops Cannings. 35 overs a side. Most Sunday afternoons from 17th April to 21st August; and a final on 28th August between the best U13's in our North region and the best in the South region.
U13 Kennet League - Our own side. Not as competitive. On Thursday evenings from 12th May to 30th June. This league, started by us over 9 years ago, is designed specifically for village sides to compete against each other. However, it has become very popular as a 'feeder league' and Marlborough have now joined.
U15 Wiltshire Youth League - Joint team with Bishops Cannings. 45 overs a side. The matches are played on most Sunday afternoons from 24th April to 4th September in the Wiltshire Youth League.
All home matches in the Wiltshire Youth League, apart from two, are played at Bishops Cannings. All the Kennet U13 home matches will be played at our own ground.

U.13 Manager needed!
In particular, we need someone to look after our own U13 team when they play in the local Kennet U13 League, playing on Thursday evenings. We helped form this league over 9 years ago and sadly last year we had to pull out of it, as we could not find someone to look after this task. The club will have to pull out (again!) of the Kennet League unless one of you agrees to be the manager!
Do you think you can do this role? And could some parents help in a more general capacity as well?
Please call
me if you would like to help or look after our club U13's. My contact details
