North Wilts League Colts' Awards

Congratulations to Cannings U.11s - Owen Alsop (Bishops Cannings), Barney Goodall and Tom Schneider (from left above) for receiving North Wilts League awards presented at Chippenham cricket club on 16th October. Owen won best league batsman with an average of 181 (!) as well as an award for 2 50's, whilst Tom won an award for taking 4 wickets for 4 vs. Shrivenham and Barney won one for taking 4 for 8 vs. Corsham.

ACCC Inaugural Annual Awards Presentation Evening (With Fish and Chip Supper!)

Members are cordially invited to celebrate the 2004 cricket season and the successes of all our teams.
Date: 29th October 2004
Venue: Village Hall, All Cannings
Time: 7:30 pm.

Our youth section continues to flourish and remains a very important part of our club. This is recognised by incorporating the youth and adults in this event. We encourage parents to come with their young players (bring your camera) so as to meet other parents, senior club members and coach's.

There will be the usual array of prizes - best batsman, best bowler etc. However, there will also be a number of 'not so orthodox' awards. You could be nominated - even if you're a parent. Come along and see. The prizes range for the U11's, right through the age groups, to all the senior teams.

The evening will start with the youth awards. There will then be a short break, followed by the Fish and Chip supper, where accompanied U11's and U13's are welcome to attend. This will be followed by the adult awards - and much drinking! To get your Fish and Chip supper (delivered all the way from Devizes's best Fish and Chip shop), simply send £5 (per person) to Russell Frost, Rybury, Townsend, All Cannings, SN10 3NX. But hurry, we can only get 40 suppers delivered and many have already been booked!

We (the organising committee) very much look forward to seeing you there. Best wishes!

We need you clicking!

(from Bob Holman) OK. Here's the deal. You visit http://allcannings.play-cricket.com/home/home.asp as often as you can - every minute of every hour of every day if you like! And when you get there, click on the NATWEST link in the top right-hand corner. Why? Because every time you do, we earn points. And what do points make? PRIZES! This is what NatWest say:

"The more visitors that click on the banner and visit the NatWest Cricket site during the summer then the better the chances you will have of winning. Once your club has entered the banner will appear during the following dates: NatWest Series: 21st June - 12th July and NatWest Challenge: 30th August - September 6th"

Here is what you could help us to win:
Bronze Tier: Up to 100 visits: 50 NatWest Inter Cricket sets
Silver Tier: 101 – 250 visits: 25 pairs of tickets for matches for The NatWest Series and The NatWest Challenge in 2005
Gold Tier : 251 – 500 visits: 3 x Coaching Clinic with an England player at ECB Academy in Loughborough for two players under the age of 18
Platinum tier: Over 500 visits: 1 NatWest Interactive Roadshow to be held at your club during the summer of 2005

Wouldn't it be fantastic if we could get the roadshow to our little village? Just 500 clicks! That's about four clicks for each of us. Not that much to ask is it? Let's see what you can achieve! C'mon, be brave, live a little.

Colts' Managers (update March2004):

Great news! We have 3 new managers for the colts teams. Very many thanks to:

Jenny Bills (U.11s); Mary Williams (U.13s) and; Andy Plank (U.15s)

for volunteering to manage/organise the teams. They will, of course, appreciate as much help as possible from parents and other members of the club, especially in helping with umpiring, scoring and remembering to turn up!

Message from the Chairman (March 2004):

Welcome to the 2004 Season of Cricket with All Cannings Cricket Club.

This year will see a number changes at ACCC. Most of you will be aware that Bill and Judith Daw have now moved from Bridge House. Bill and Judith have provided the ACCC with a home for the past 15 years and without their support there would not have been a Club. On behalf of the Club, I would like to wish Bill, Judith and their family the very best of luck for the future and to thank them for their commitment to the Club over this period.

I would also, on behalf of the Club, like to extend a warm welcome to Charles and Sally Osborne, the new occupants of Bridge House. As our new landlords, Charles and Sally have very generously granted the Club permission to continue playing at Bridge House for the next five seasons, giving us time to consider the longer term options.

In order for ACCC to continue to develop in the future, a substantial investment is required in the playing facilities; permanent changing rooms with showers, club house, all weather nets, all weather wickets, sight screens etc. To commit to this level of investment, requires some form of secure tenure in the Ground e.g. 20+ year lease or outright purchase. A New Grounds Sub-committee, chaired by Club Secretary Russell Frost, is already exploring a number of opportunities of our moving to a new permanent site.

Keith Bills's Grounds Report highlights a number of changes that have been made to the playing facilities for this season. You will also see that there are still a number of maintenance tasks outstanding in order to complete the move, so please let Keith know how and when you can help.

In Robert Burrough's Treasurers report you will find details of this years subscriptions and match fees. For some reason it always takes forever to collect subscriptions, it doesn't need to. Can I please urge you to take advantage of the attractive discount on offer by paying on time?

ACCC has enjoyed considerable success on the playing field over the past 5 years. The major contribution to this success is almost certainly the 'colts factor'. ACCC are very fortunate in that Bob Holman has created a colts structure for all age groups. However, this is now in danger unless more volunteers come forward, he cannot do it all on his own, please read the colts section to see how you could help.

Your club needs your help! - Have a good season
Mike Golden, Chairman

Grounds Report (March 2004):

As you may have already noticed, the pavilion (i.e. changing portakabin and tea room) has already been relocated to other end of the field. We owe much gratitude to James and Chris Hues for their patience and assistance in completing this move.

Over the coming weeks/months much work will be needed on the pavilion and surrounding area to make it more agreeable and respectable. Some repair work to the buildings themselves, plus a paint job will make these more presentable. It is hoped that some slabs can be laid around the pavilion, and some sort of verandah constructed. This obviously will require a number of working parties to carry out the works and members of the club will be called upon to put some time into these projects. Anyone else who is able to offer any help would be most welcome to get in touch!

Much to everyone's relief, pardon the pun; it is intended to install a proper toilet facility on site. A rental unit will be installed between the two buildings, which will be tended to weekly by the rental company. Water, supplied from the existing on-field mains, will be run to the pavilion and a generator for the small amount of usage required will supply electricity.

A new entrance to the field is planned to be constructed, thanks to the agreement of the Hues family, from the track adjacent to Lipgate House. This should make entry and exit much safer as the views along the road are considerably better. Car parking will be permitted only from the pavilion back towards the new entrance gate. No vehicles will be allowed onto the playing area, or to the other end of the field, other than as agreed.

The usual ground maintenance and preparation will commence, probably in March, when the Groundsman and his young assistant will regularly be seen walking and riding up and down the square! Other areas of the ground will also need regular maintenance, such as the perimeters and the car parking areas. We will be seeking assistance from members during the season to help keep the ground in good condition.

Colts - Watershed! (Feb 2004):

The Colts section of your club has come to a watershed. Your assistance as parents, guardians, players or simply interested helpers, is now urgently needed. For many years there has been a manager for each of our U11, U13 and U15 cricket teams. This year however, we have none. For different reasons each manager has decided to step down.

I would like to express my grateful thanks to Penny Croutear (U15), Andy Jones (U13) and Gareth Williams (U11), the most recent managers, for all your hard work. I know that without your unstinting support and help over the past years that this club would not be in such a strong and vibrant position as it is today. Thank you to the three of you, and also to all past managers - too many to mention!

So, what is the problem? Our players (your children) enjoy their cricket and I very much want this to continue. I and the other club coaches will continue to help them, coach them and guide them in the best way that we can, as always. But, we can't do it all - we need your help. These same players (your same children) need to be organised; teams agreed; players got to match venues; matches umpired; matches scored; match fees collected etc. etc.

This is where you can help. I have to be honest and say that it is probably not the easiest job in the world - as it can be incredibly frustrating. For example, it has taken you most of the night on the phone trying to organise a team for your next match. You finally achieve it. Three hours before the match two players 'cry-off'! You have to replace them at very short notice. Some players may not even turn up for the match, because they forgot! Others may turn up late as they took the wrong turning! It can all get a bit much.

HOWEVER, you will be staggered how fantastically rewarding it can be. See your team play as a unit. See them scrap for a hard fought draw. See one of your less able players take a match-winning catch. See them enjoy a resounding victory. See your best bowler shatter the stumps of the oppositions' best batsman with his favourite delivery. Meet other like-minded parents. Enjoy the open air during the summer. The list is endless.

It may be that one person does not have to do everything for each team (head cook and bottle-washer come to mind!) as has been the case in the past. Perhaps a few of you could arrange to look after one age group between you and split the responsibilities.

Whatever the final outcome, if I am not contacted BEFORE MONDAY 15th MARCH 2004 giving me assurances that you are prepared to help run our fantastic youth section, there will be no junior matches played at this club in the 2004 season.

If this is the case, then there will be no coaching. There is little point in coaching players, if there are no matches. A copy of this information will be sent to all my Colts section, individually. I hope and trust that I am contacted before the 'due date', as I shall not be 'lobbying' anyone.

Life Membership (March 2004):

At the last AGM, Don Lee stood down as Club President. In recognition of his years of service to ACCC as a founder member, past Treasurer, past President and past committee member, the club offered him a life membership. This is a rare honour and Don becomes only the third recipient of this Honour (after Phil Mansell and Sam Merrit). Thank you for all your help.
