15-over friendly v. Marlborough (H): Marlborough 60 for 4, AC 59 for 8.
Finally the U.13s got to play their first game. Robert Burry was captain
and we fielded first. James Cracknell made a great start getting their opening
batsman out for 0 and he went on to claim 3 more wickets. There was some
excellent fielding and throwing by the AC team. AC then went in and faced
some very straight bowling that was hard to make anything of. Ollie Goodall
top scored with 12 and Archie Osborne beat his personal best score and if
only we had taken a few more singles the outcome might have been different
- a very tense finish left us 1 run short! Never mind, all the boys played
well and Marlborough were a very friendly team. Special thanks to Terry
Paterson who stepped in to Umpire for us. |

v. Chippenham (H): AC/BC 55 for 7; Chippenham 56 for 7. A close-fought
but friendly game. AC/BC strated slowly but surely with Louca and Lever.
Will Foot and Barney Goodall then put on 17 for the 5th wicket and Barney
batted through to top score on 11 n.o. (except for wides at 29!). Good
bowling from Cannings saw wickets fall (Tom Alsop 2 for 6) but Chippenham
kept the run-rate up and with a vital 4 at the last minute, won with 4
balls of the 20 overs to spare.

AC friendly v. Shrewton (A): Shrewton opened the batting but found runs
difficult to get due to tight bowling by our two openers - Ollie Goodall
with 3 straight maidens and Ben W. Riley taking 2 wickets for 4 runs.
Robert Burry, playing as captain, took 2 wickets for 4 runs in his 2 overs
and Chris Botham and Sam Williams were on for hat-tricks together following
2 excellent catches by Sam as wicket keeper. Daniel Bain then produced
some dramatic bowling and took a wicket much to his surprise! Shrewton
finished with 64 runs in their 20 overs. Robert Burry and Jacob Rogers
opened the batting for All Cannings, Robert batting very maturely and
retiring at 28 n.o. Shrewton's bowlers struggled against our batsmen with
6 retirements, 2 not-outs and only 1 wicket lost. The game was won after
9 overs, but it was agreed to play the full 20 overs. Notable performances
from Ben, scoring a 6 (and losing the ball in the trees!) and Daniel who
started with a 4. Michael Shantry was looking good but unfortunately ran
out of overs. Overall we had a great morning's cricket and special thanks
to Barney Goodall for stepping in to help us out when he wasn't feeling
well and Jacob, Henry and Chris for joining us from Bishops Cannings.
Also thank you Adrian, who never gets the chance to just watch a match
and relax!

AC friendly vs. Marlborough. Despite
being in competition with a certain England football game, the boys were
full of enthusiasm for this match. In order to share out the honours,
Archie Osborne was captain this week and did a fine job. We tried a bit
of cheating by fielding 12 for the first 2 overs but were soon found out,
so then swopped in and out every 2 overs - at least it kept Archie on
his toes!
Ollie
Goodall opened the bowling with some lovely action getting his first wicket
in the first over. He then followed this up with some top fielding. Robert
Burry followed and took another wicket and Ben Walker-Riley made a great
catch. But Marlborough then started to pile up the runs. Daniel Bain made
a great stop - unfortunately with his ankle which put him out of the game
for a couple of overs. Luckily we had our extra man - Paris Goddard who
has joined us from Seend. His enthusiasm for the game was a real tonic.
Marcus O'Connor went on to make a great catch and we finished the innings
with great bowling from Ben taking 3 wickets in the 16th over. Marlborough
finished on 103 and all this with continual score up-dates from Marlborough
boys in the pavilion watching the England match!
James
Cracknall and Sam Williams opened the batting and unfortunately James
was caught very early on. Sam went on to produce some fine runs - almost
scoring a 6 and running 3 runs off one ball with great calling - which
I overheard was 'impossible' to do on their small field! Sam scored 24
altogether. We couldn't quite match Marlborough's batting however and
finished with 74, but at least it meant the whole team went in! Well
done to all the boys. It was a great match with lots of encouragement
given to each other making a good atmosphere and a lot of fun. Many thanks
to Terry Paterson for coming over to umpire for us and a Marlborough dad
for doing our scoring! P.S.
Sven was quite pleased with his team too!
